Jane Doe was involved in two romantic relationships at the same time; an affair is considered a higher risk activity due to the strong emotion these relationships involve. Infuriation and heartbreak is likely to result if the new boyfriend were to discover Jane Doe had begun to see her past boyfriend. Moral judgment comes into question, too, which also can trigger more strong emotions. Anger will impair decision-making and alter perception. These factors are higher risk and increase the likeliness of victimization (Siegel, 2014). The motive for Jane Doe’s affair needs to be further examined, as her motive could have also raised her likeliness of victimization. Physical evidence is what is science-based and can provide deductive reasoning in a case. The key evidence in this case that will need to be analyzed by forensics is the semen on Jane and any DNA left on the belt that was used for strangulation. These both can link a suspect to the crime. An interview would be held for all involved including the ex-boyfriend, current boyfriend, co-workers, and both boyfriends’ families. Going through the interviews with them, their testimonies will be in further examination to be disproved or supported (Turvey, 2008). This will include the process of falsification of and theories to see if they can uphold. The time when sexual intercourse will be necessary to establish to know if sex occurred after or before death. As previously stated, the boyfriends will need to be questioned about any sadomasochism Jane took part in. This could reveal Jane Doe’s initial consent to sexual intercourse, if the sexual intercourse took place before Jane’s death. All factors in Jane Doe’s will need to be questioned; such as did Jane go back to her old boyfriend because of her current boyfriend’s violent behavior? Since the victim’s cell phone was taken, it is important to retrieve a phone log and review all phone activity. If any phone calls are made, then the phone number will be tracked down.
