The job someone has deals with how much money that person makes due to the job. It could be said that someone working in a law firm is in a higher social class than someone who would be working at a fast food restaurant due to the difference in money that both employees would be earning. Class is central to the overriding marriage concerns that govern society at large, as well as the bulk of the novel 's main characters. Money and class definitely create boundaries. This is shown in chapter in a book titled “A Victorian Literature & Culture” by Herbert F. I think that someone who carries themselves well and has high confidence and goes after what they want, like wealth, is more independent and is more attractive to be around. We are just attracted to someone who works hard and who sets a good example. However, it is very unattractive and annoying to have someone who is not independent with their funds, like Isabelle. There is a scene in the novel where Captain Tilney comes over to sit with Catherine and Isabelle and he has a conversation with Isabelle about how her heart is not independent. I think that this means that Isabelle does not think for herself and she just follows what she wants instead of what she needs. If she wants a new dress for the ball, she’s going to get it even if she needs something more important like food. She just wants to look like she is the best and to be able to act like she is the best because looking like she has money is the most important thing to her because she wants to be in that upper class society so that she can marry someone who has money so she does not have to work for herself. We as humans thrive off having money whether we need money to pay bills or we need it to buy the new BMW convertible we have always dreamed of. We judge others based on the clothes they
