I. Introduction:
Attention Getter: “There is a stubbornness about me that never can bear to be frightened at the will of others. My courage always rises at every attempt to intimidate me.” said by Elizabeth Bennet in the Jane Austen novel, Pride and Prejudice. Is it possible that an 18th Century novelist still be relevant 200 hundred years later, in today’s 21st century world? It would seem that the answer is a definite Yes. Even though in Austen’s day she was not as well recognized, it would so happen to be that her strong female characters have not only been able to withstand the test of time but also has managed to integrate into a part of our culture presently. Austen’s novels are discussed in classrooms to even being the focus and inspiration of many of her works becoming adaptations into films over the years.
Thesis Statement: Jane Austen is considered one of the greatest English novelists of the 18th century, therefore influencing and paving the way for future women authors.
