Through either medium, someone always ends up physically, mentally, or emotionally hurt that can lead to extremities such as self harm, drug use, and even suicide. The film shows how oblivious adults ignore the issue and classify it as a normality, while also showing a clear insight to the mental and physical abuse kids face everyday. Hirsch supports his argument with his successful use of ethos, logos and pathos by weaving together the stories of five different families who have first hand experience with bullying, making them reliable sources. Nabozny’s first step to standing up for himself was simply talking through his fear filled days with some kind hearted adults. Jamie had bad experience with talking to adults in the past, since they did not do anything or dismissed the case, but nevertheless, the bullying was relentless and it was time to try again. After being constantly harassed at Ashland High School, Jamie’s days were filled with hurtfulness and pain, which led to him eating lunch in his teacher Ms. Liz Woodworth’s room. The documentary, Bully, follows five children, from elementary school to high school, and offers an intimate viewpoint on the topic of bullying, and how it affects young children and their families. My overall reaction to this documentary was an initial feeling of sadness. Sadness for the children who have been affected by bullying in the documentary, and sadness for all of those who have been affected by bullying in their lives. This feeling soon turned into a concoction of disappointment, anger, and overall confusion. Disappointment and anger in the fact that children in today’s society feel the need to verbally and physically attack others, and disappointment in the way that bullying is handled by teachers, parents, and administration.…

Pulling Someone down Will Never Help You Reach the Top Members of the society take part in it and yet everyone chooses to neglect the subject. The schools that claim a supposed “bully free zone,” are the ones that tend to do the least to prevent bullying. Adults are frequently unaware of bullying; consistently the victim’s own parents are generally oblivious to anything going on. Canadian spoken word poet Shane Koyczan provides a perfect description of a toxic school environment brimming with bullies in a short video-poem titled To This Day. Koyczan delivers, “seems like every school has an arsenal of names getting updated every year and if a kid breaks in a school and no one around chooses to hear, do they make a sound?”…
