A few colonies and cities communities have experienced some secretive and unfathomable pasts which can't be overlooked for long. Comparative sort of history has been seen in Jamestown and Plymouth. Jamestown in Virginia was the principal lasting English settlement and Plymouth in Massachusetts being the second, with these two states English settlement in North America was begun. Jamestown was started when in 1607, the London Company was created by a group of merchants. They sent themselves onto three ships for the quest to find what is now known as Jamestown, landing off the coast of North Carolina. People set sail for America(Plymouth) to escape religious persecution(Pilgrims). The Jamestown settlers could not have landed in a worse place. In fact, the settlement carried disease carrying mosquitos, was surrounded by a large group of Indians, and contained brackish water. Also, almost everyone had inexperience with farming. However, the settlement was on a peninsula, making it easy to defend from Plymouth on the other hand, was good for defending form French and Spanish ships. It's warm climate as well as fertile soil in areas made it suitable for farming. However in Plymouth, the land was more beach, making it a good place for a ship like the Mayflower to anchor in. It's rocky and sandy soil as well as its cold climate made it hard to make a farm. There also was hunger, disease, and more environmental hazards.The settlers from New England were interested in things like lumbering and trading with the nearby Indians. When the Pilgrims settled, the local Indians welcomed them to the land and gave them support, such as giving them traps to catch animals, and teaching them a way to farm. Additionally, Jamestown practiced the religion as practiced in Anglican Churches, and used a representative government, while Plymouth practiced a religion that was separate from Anglican Churches,and used a self government(Mayflower Compact).
