James Lenze Speech Analysis

Improved Essays
James Lenze’s speech was good; he seemed to adhere to most of the instructions. His verbal stance wasn’t all that great, he sounded a little like a robot for most of the speech. He could really improve on his non-verbal stance too, because he doesn’t really seem to engage with the audience or move around much. He seemed to be organized at least with the speech though; he has just a little struggle reciting everything back to his audience. The speech seemed to be a longer speech and felt like it was becoming a little boring at times. He sited his work and had power point as well to show his audience. It wasn’t a bad speech for a first time. I would rate him a 7 out of 10 and give him a B. Tiffany Britt’s speech wasn’t all that great. The person filming should have picked a new spot and the length was way over the recommended 5 minutes. Her verbal stance was all over the place with no volume or tone; she seemed to have a lot of trouble remembering what she was suppose to say and …show more content…
My verbal stance throughout the speech was good for the most part with a warm friendly tone towards my audience. My non- verbal stance could have been improved a little. I was holding that paper with the speech on it and I wish I had put it down, because I played with it the whole time. Next time I want to engage with my audience a little more too. The speech was informative though and energetic with enough volume for everyone to hear. The organization of the speech was put together well enough for the audience to follow along with me. I mentioned my oral citations at the end when stating that I had researched the game on Wikipedia and other websites. Next time I will have a podium and stage seating though. I feel its much easier than trying to gather a group of people in a living room and present something too them. I would rate myself an 8 out 10 and give myself an

Andrew’s delivery of the presentation was one of the best I have seen from someone giving a presentation. He was clear and avoided using business jargon that would confuse his audience. Andrew came off as confident and very knowledgeable about each topic. He also encouraged us to ask questions at any point during the presentation. He was bombarded with many questions, but Andrew never stumbled and gave clear…

After presenting and completing my visual informative speech, there were several strengths and weaknesses present throughout my speech. Some of my strengths, with respect to the content of the speech as I did my visual presentation, was that I did a good job with the introduction. The introduction involved introducing my topic and grabbing the attention of my audience. Also, I had great supporting materials and most importantly great organization of my main points. As for the delivery aspect of my speech, according to the video, I had a good posture and used my flash cards very well, which were very helpful in delivering my speech.…

Lastly I wanted establish logos by laying out a logical story that would be easy to follow for the audience. Regarding the clarity and style of my speech there was some aspect that were effective and others that were ineffective. The vocal and verbal clarity were delivered effectively. I had voice and vocal control and the audience was able to hear me well, and my non-verbal expression was controlled. However, my overall message was not conveyed clearly.…

The general purpose of this speech was to draw attention to our societal isolation, and how we don’t do enough to promote positive mental health. Mr. Junger talks about the horrors of war, and the toll it takes on veterans. He talks about PTSD and the mental health of these veterans. He then talks about how these veterans return to the U.S., and find themselves isolated and alone. He uses examples of how bad veteran suicide is here, and contrasts that with the Navajo warriors and Israeli soldiers.…

I clearly passed messages on what I am going to inform audiences i.e. set speech purpose, and separated speech major parts developing main points. I also attempted engagement with audiences by asking questions to make them feel they are articulated in the conversation/discussion as the vital component. All of these things are my strengths. Certainly, these aren’t enough strengths to make a speech the best. Reviewing self-presented video going through it a few times, I found out supporting materials were missing, sub-points were not clearly mentioned, and proper transitions were not made to maintain the chronological flow of information.…

More or less, I got the reaction I wanted from the audience. I felt like it was not so boring that I lost anyone, and I definitely got a couple laughs at some of the jokes I tried. If I were to rewrite or perform my speech again, I’d probably do a few things differently. The main thing I’d do differently, would be to look up from the paper more. Before giving my speech, I did not think this would be a challenge, but once I was actually up there with all my nerves, I found it pretty difficult, to sustain speaking without looking at my script.…

I watched a speech online via TED talk, and the title of the speech is “Why gun violence can’t be our normal” delivered by Dan Gross who is a gun control activist. He delivered a really good persuasive speech with good ethos, pathos and logos to make sure that people follow his idea to end gun violence in America. He used warrant of the heart where he presented ethos, pathos and also I-logos. He tried to move his audience to end gun violence by making a personal claim. He provided a vivid example by asking the audiences to imagine a certain condition, create commonality, and many more.…

New Orleans mayor, Mitch Landrieu, gave a speech on May 19th, 2017 addressing the removal of a statue of Robert E. Lee. Landrieu does this to show his full support and explain why they are removing the statue. He uses a heavy and empowering tone, as well as facts and references throughout his speech to rally others into seeing and agreeing with his views. Mayor Mitch Landrieu understood that when he gave this speech, there were some things that he had to emphasize by repeating. One of the major things he tries to emphasize is the fact that New Orleans is a melting pot of many cultures and that ¨Out of many, we are one¨.…

Somaly Mam is a well-known public speaker and human sex trafficking activist. On May 8th 2012, she spoke about her work with human sex trafficking in Cambodia, her organization Somaly Mam Foundation, as well as a little about herself. She gave this talk at the Oslo Freedom Forum, but I watched the speech on Youtube where it has 5,204 views, so this speech has reached many. She started off her speech by telling her story, a heartbreaking and touching one. She herself was sold into sex slavery at a brothel and was raped daily.…

Her word choice was carefully picked, precise and clean. Her tone was a calm yet persistent one where one could see how subtle but also determined she was on her work. She would pause just enough to make a clean speech, she didn’t hurry off or seemed nervous in any way which only interested the audience into paying attention to her. However, one may think that she would have an even more effective speech if she would of played with her voice a little more or do some sort of hand gestures. If she would have changed her voice into a stronger one she maybe could have expressed some strong feeling that wasn’t empathy or remorse.…
