On an August morning in 1824, James Wilson and his 12-year-old son, John Thomas, arrived at their harvest-field near Reedsville, Pennsylvania with two horses and a sled. They threshed the buckwheat and hauled away the chaff until lunchtime. As they sat side-by-side eating their meal, they were set upon by a party of natives of the Six Nations intent on capturing the father and son. The Wilsons could offer no resistance and their long march began. Their trail was northward, through the Kishacoquillas Valley and across the Seven Mountains until they wearily reached the Seneca village near the present site of Buffalo, NY, one hundred seventy miles from home.…

Shawnna - Essay 1 As a part of a family that actively supports, wears, and watches the Seattle Seahawks throughout the football season, it’s hard not to notice just how unique their Quarterback Russell Wilson is, on or off the field. In the National Football League, big things rarely come in small packages and it wasn’t until I gained my full respect for Russell Wilson that I realized what gave the 12th fans something extra to scream and shout about. At first glance, one could say that Wilson was physically different in comparison to other quarterbacks such as Denver Bronco’s Peyton Manning and Carolina Panthers’ Cam Newton. Standing at a height of 5’ 11” whereas his opponents stood at 6’ 5”, Wilson’s height was described to be “his biggest inhibitor at the next level of football”1.…

Critical Thinking is the objective analysis and evaluation of an issue in order to form a judgment. A time using critical thinking is when I enrolled into school after being out of school for some years. Feeling apprehensive about taking courses online for the first time, I did not know what to expect or did not know if was able to complete the assignments. Before I knew about the resources that the school offered. Expressing my concerns to one of my close friends who has already completed their bachelor’s degree.…

I can honestly say I have never really looked at Critical Thinking the way I see it now. Weak critical thinkers lack the ability to look at things from different points of view being true or not true. Strong critical thinkers have the ability to see things, and question every angle of their way of thinking, and come up with a theory or realistic view or stand point on that topic or discussion. The quality of critical thinking, I feel I am a strong critical thinking! My best quality is Intellectual courage: the willingness to face and fairly assess ideas, beliefs, or viewpoints to which they have not given a serious hearing, regardless of one's strong negative reactions to them.…

As the day began a slimmer of light pierced his eye and as he awoke covered in sand and scrap. Wilson had looked around and saw that he was surrounded in a deserted wasteland of water and left ashore with the remains of his shattered boat. As Wilson arose he looked at the remains of his boat. And saw a glimmer of light bounce off a small rusted red trunk. Wilson came to the trunk and with a loud creek the trunk opened.…

We being the imperfect humans that we are, we need to use critical thinking to solve problems and basically go through life. For example, you can’t become aware of a problem if you can’t solve it. Analyze problems independently is an enormous part of this. A time I used critical thinking was recently. I have put myself on a diet and I was close to eating something unhealthy like chips and candy.…

To me critical thinking is reading a text, or having a conversation, or watching something on TV and then finding out and understanding what it was trying to portray. Since taking this class I have added more ways for me to think more critically. A few things that have made my critical thinking easier is how to mark a book, reading and reflection, application of wasteland, and the 2 types of information given descriptive and prescriptive. I know that marking a book is good for critical reading but when we read the article How to Mark a Book I found I was completely wrong.…

The diverse ways in which critical thinking can be applied are astonishing. One may find themselves in a group project working towards a common goal and an individual would find it immensely helpful to be able to process the ideas or statements and go through steps exploring possible problems, solutions, and meanings. In a professional environment, possessing this skill would demonstrate not only competency, but leadership. In a meeting, one may be asked what one thinks of the ideas that have been discussed and it would serve one well to be able to analytically and intellectually reflect on what has been discussed and arrive at an answer to a problem that one’s peers would comprehend. Possessing the skill of thinking critically is crucial in all parts of life; it is a skill that will be easily noticed and assist one in answering any question that…

During your normal daily life or even in the operating room, critical thinking can be very advantageous for you and the people around you. The ability to think critically can also diffuse many situations that may lead to pain and frustrations (Elder & Paul, n.d.). When you encounter a difficult situation, you should ask yourself questions to find out how to become more successful in the situation. In the operating room, there are many situations in which you have to evaluate whether or not you should speak up about a situation, and this is where critical thinking comes into play because you really need to know the whole situation and see where the other team members mindsets are. Many times people just jump into conclusion and this will cause conflict to occur, most people regret these situations and this is because they weren’t thinking clearly enough, since people don’t take time to think things through (Elder & Paul, n.d.).…

Having the ability to use critical thinking in the workplace is just as important as knowing how to use the ability before even having the job. For blue collar workers such as moving men this ability is frequently used. Rose exemplifies this in “Blue Collar Brilliance” by stating, “movers determine how to get an electric range down a flight of stairs require coordination, navigation, planning, and the establishing incremental goals” (252). Just as liberal arts students use critical thinking skills for their education and to prepare for their future careers, after reading this quote one can see that the average blue-collar worker, such as a mover, have learned and use the ability of critical…

I think that critical thinking is very important in college when it comes to assignments, group discussions, and social life in general. If you use the combination of logic and critical thinking, it will help you assess ideas you or others have and in class that is very important. I got a 100% percent on the Quia Critical Thinking Quiz the first time. The majority of the questions were mostly common sense and some of them I’ve heard or learned about before. In #6 it says that fair-mindedness is learning to see the mistakes of your own thinking and the thinking of others.…
