James Salvatore was born in 1935 and raised in Victoria, Australia with his two parents and seven younger brothers and sisters. After his parents died in 1944 James and his siblings moved to Stewart Island, New Zealand with their great grandmother named Nanny. A year had passed, being 1945, and James took on the responsibility at fifteen years old to care for his younger brothers and sisters and his great grandmother. In Stewart Island all of what was left of the Salvatore family lived in a medium sized cottage off the coast of the Pacific Ocean. James could not stop thinking about the loss of his parents, his new responsibilities and the fact that his grandmother is ill. In front of their cottage there was a giant, towering rock that James …show more content…
Now, let me finish writing. Call me for dinner.” James answered. “You and your stupid journal, but of course I will call you for dinner. Well, Bye!” James little sister ran back to the cottage and James kept writing. Suddenly, James thought about this RoseMary Gilbert. He wondered why she would drown herself and why couldn’t they find her body? After he pondered the legend of RoseMary Gilbert he started back writing. In his journal he wrote, “I don’t know whether to believe or not to believe, to have hope or not to have hope and to live or not to live.” James was debating about what was best. He just wanted to be with his parents in and block out everything in the world. He wanted a good life for his younger siblings and all of them seemed to hate him anyway. So he stopped writing to take a break and go on a swim in the ocean. He was an amazing swimmer, so he swam out to the deep part in the ocean. Still, he could not stop thinking about his two choices, life or death. In that moment, as he went underwater he noticed that he couldn’t swim back up to the top, yet he could still breathe underwater. Slowly, he sank to the bottom and tried to scream for help. He was scared at first, but as he continued to sink, his fear …show more content…
Suspiciously, he scrutinized the bush, but heard nothing else from it. Surprisingly, a girl sprung out of the bush ready to defend herself and exclaimed, “What do you want and why are you here?!” James in awe of her beauty was speechless. A couple of silent minutes later he spoke and said, “I don’t want anything and have no clue why I am here. Who are you and what are you doing here?” James had a feeling that she looked so familiar. She had wavy blonde hair with beautiful blue eyes. James was lost in thought when he glared into her eyes. And then he remembered. This was RoseMary Gilbert. It was actually her but how he wondered. She disappeared twenty years ago and still looked like a young fourteen year old girl. The girl answered, “Tell me your name first boy.” James responded, “I’m James Salvatore and I’m fifteen years old. Your turn.” She said, “My name is RoseMary Gilbert and I am fourteen years old.” “You’re the legend! You are really real!” James shouted. “Legend?” RoseMary questioned. “Yes, only you’re not dead, you’re right here! It was told that you drowned yourself in the Pacific Ocean in Stewart Island, New Zealand and your body was never found.” “I did drown in the ocean, but I did not die. That was nearly twenty years ago.” RoseMary commented. “Why do you still look fourteen?” James asked. “Well on The Long Lightbulb Lane you don’t age.” RoseMary answered. “What exactly is
