James Naismith
“I am sure that no man can derive more pleasure from money or power than I do from seeing a pair of basketball goals in some out of the way place”-James Naismith. James Naismith loved books. He had a poster in his dorm room saying “I will work harder than any man today.” Then James was introduced to sports. He loved physical activity and was in the gymnasium everyday. When he was a kid he loved competition and winning. Naismith’s love of sports, degree in physical education, and a job at the YMCA led him to discover the need for an indoor sport which is known today as basketball.
James Naismith loved physical activities and sports as a kid. When he went to college he studied all the time. One day three of his friends invited him to a game of soccer which he watched for the first time. The next day he had nothing to do, so he went to the gymnasium where they were playing soccer and he joined in. He enjoyed the competition, so he started rugby and soccer. James Naismith had a coach that was a Christian. He surprised Naismith because he would pray at the start of every game they played field on the football team. His coach put him center and he asked why. His coach said “ I put you center because you can get mad in the nicest way anybody here can.” Naismith team, the Mcgills was undefeated. The quarterback broke his nose and he couldn't play. So Naismith's team had to forfeit the game. Because of his coach he took on interest in a physical activity, became a gym teacher and got a degree in physical education. James Naismith also got a medical degree from the University of Colorado, which earned him the name Doc
