Everything from the rules of the game, to the court, hoop, and ball have changed over the 125 years we’ve had the game of basketball. James Naismith invented basketball in 1891. When the rules were first “published” there were only thirteen rules. On December 21, 1891, Naismith took his class to play a match in the Armory Street court; nine versus nine with a soccer ball and two peach baskets. Basketball went from a game of eighteen forced students to an estimated four-hundred and fifty players worldwide. The history and changes of basketball have a major impact on the game of basketball played now.
