The history of basketball wasn’t really even created to be an individual sport itself. It was actually supposed to be a daily exercise or indoor activity in the YMCA. It was being in use for off season football players. They called a man to create the indoor activity. His name was James Naismith. (Sportsknowhow.com) He made a ball out of rubber in a sort of volleyball form and put up fruit baskets for hoops. The players had to dribble to the other side of the court and try to shoot the ball into the basket. Now of course the rules have changed drastically. The Triangle Offense originated when Phil Jackson (coach of the bulls when Michael Jordan was playing) decided he wanted a new kind of offense to bring a new spike to the Offense. This shows that even offenses or plays from back in the day when it comes to pick and roles and even the flashy Alley-Oops are used in today’s game. “The Knicks' adjustment to the triangle, not just physically but mentally, will take time. It has not been easy so far in the preseason for the Knicks, who also have had to deal with injuries to Andrea Bargnani and Jose Calderon.” (espn.go.com) Says President Phil Jackson. In conclusion the game of basketball has evolved greatly since James Naismith invented it. From coaching to plays to the players themselves the history of basketball influence such an evolution to the game we have today. Without the ball that was played in the 1900’s the game wouldn’t have additions like the 3 point line or a shot clock. “I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” (krui.fm) in this quote Michael Jordan states that his past mistakes are what made him so great. His mistakes are what made him the greatest player of all time. They helped him overcome all his flaws and made game unstoppable. In the same way the history of basketball effects how great the game is now. The old effects the new and makes it
