James Monroe was born on April 28th 1758 in Westmoreland Virginia. Later named Monroe Hall after his death. When he was sixteen years old he left home to study at the college of William of Mary. Only to leave college to begin to fight in the American Revolution in 1775. During the war, he was Thomas Jefferson's apprentice and studied law under him until 1783 in Fredericksburg. As a young and upcoming politician, he was elected to the United States Senate in 1790. He also worked with the french, smoothing ties over and beginning new relationships. It is likely that his work as a french ambassador broke ground on the Louisiana Purchase later on. He was a french ambassador until 1796. Monroe became the governor of his home state, Virginia, in
