In chapter 22 James meets Aubrey Rubenstein and since chapter 22 James says that at this point he has found what he has been looking for because Aubrey has came into his life. Rubenstein insisted to show the history of their Jewish community in Suffolk. Rubenstein told James that is was not an easy life to live there because they were Jewish, so the population of the Jews decreased. To begin with James meets Rubenstein by going into Rubensteins office with surprise. Rubenstein was surprised and had welcomed James because they liked Ruth's family Rubensteins father was close friends with Ruth’s father. James and Rubenstein talk about the difficulties that the Jews go through, the Jewish community was really small, it was just a difficult life
