In 1787-1788 James Madison helped write the federalist papers. In 1801-1809 He served as secretary of state under president Thomas jefferson. During 1809-1817 He served as president for two terms. But during that time the war of 1812 broke out and unfortunately for him he took down the national bank and almost completely disbanded the military So there was little chance of success. Another thing that brought down the likelihood of success britain controlled all of modern day canada and had it’s own army that was larger than ours.

These are some reasons he was important He helped make the constitution and helped sway the states to ratify it. He also kept the written record of the Constitutional Convention which would give us more details about what happened in there. He also argued for multiple branches and a strong central government. This helps because now no single branch of government has all the power and they have to work together.
Some of his qualities were that he was brilliant even when he was a kid and once he started learning at that age he would do nonstop research even to the point to where he was skinny and ill. Which means that he was highly devoted to his research and education. Other things about him were that James Madison had two kids and died in 1793 due to the yellow fever
