They lost so much confidence that they decided to separate themselves from the U.S and make peace with Great Britain. Delegates were sent to Hartford, Connecticut to make a decision about what they should do. While they were there at the Hartford Convention, Andrew Jackson had defeated the British in New Orleans. The Federalist lost the faith and assurance of the Americans because while the Americans were fighting for victory in New Orleans, they were in Hartford trying to discuss how to break away from the U.S. The Federalist would eventually fade from the political scene because of this.
Although the Americans’ victory came after the war during the Battle of New Orleans, I think it still could be seen as a personal victory for them. However, as far as the overall war, I think Britain handled it better. I think the War of 1812 could be seen as a victory for both the U.S and Britain. Because of the Treaty of Ghent, both countries gained back their properties. The only people that took a lost would have to be the Indians because they never regained any territory back and were still being pushed aside by the U.
