James Madison the president who got the white house burned down and started the war of 1812. James Madison was born on March 16, 1751 in Port Conway. He grew up the oldest of 12 kids. He lived on the Mount Pleasant plantation in Orange County, Virginia. When he reach adulthood the Mount Pleasant plantation was passed on to him. After the plantation was passed on to him he bought more land and slaves.In 1794 James Madison married Dolly Payne Todd who was a 26 year old widow.

So he asked for a declaration of war. In Madison’s later years he became very concerned with his historical legacy and began editing and rewriting his documents. By the time he got to his seventy it had almost become an obsession.On June 28, 1836 James Madison died at his plantation in Orange County,
