If I had been prosecuting James Earl Ray I do feel that my case would have been strong enough to win at trail. Based on the eye witness, his confession and the fingerprints alone would have been enough to convict him. Although, he later recanted his confession, there was no other evidence available to support his claim that he did not shoot King himself, but was a conspirator. I would argue why would anyone purposely leave their fingerprints on murder weapon. Ray claimed he just wanted to be famous, but what person would risk getting the death penalty for fame? Also why flee the country if you were that confident that George Wallace would have freed you? This would have been an open and close case. James Earl Ray would have been found
