The well written post of James Bowdy, is very interesting in the area of age discrimination. In his case, he is singled out and treated poorly by one particular supervisor who has children around his age. Currently, Mr. Bowdy’s only recourse is to avoid the supervisor as much as possible. This situation presents a very real dilemma. Speaking out proves difficult when one wants to keep their position, and is even more challenging when the supervisor treats others respectfully, and can further deny the allegations by stating she has children the same age. Although I completely respect the decision to avoid the supervisor, I cannot tell if Mr. Bowdy has exhausted all efforts in working the situation out. It is entirely possible all avenues have been investigated, but perhaps what we have learned in this course may provide a few more options. …show more content…
Bowdy. Quite often the adeptness of a younger generation on social media, and in general computer skills can be a source of tension. Robbins and Judge (2009) explain that ‘older workers are also perceived as lacking flexibility and as being resistant to new technology” (p. 49). Perhaps if Mr. Bowdy becomes the unofficial social media leader and trains his older co-workers on whatever program suits the business; he could be viewed as an asset instead of a threat. For example one of my team members originally made fun of the older workers in my team who were not on Twitter.
