After James’ assessment it has been found that he is suffering from anxiety. This is normal for a child of James’ age as he is only four and this is his first admission to a busy hospital setting. James’ mother Brid is also anxious and stressed since her child has been admitted to hospital. She is feeling guilty that she cannot stay all the time with James during the duration of his hospital stay. She must attend work and look after her eldest daughter, Maria who is 8. James may also be suffering from separation anxiety as his father works abroad and he is not used to being away from his mother for long periods.
Another developmental problem that was identified during assessment was James’ level communication.
