The people that live in Jamaica enjoy life and live by the word irie. They love to dance, listen to music, and cook. Many people are seen with dreadlocks which is a representation of their culture and love for reggae music. About ten percent of Jamaican’s represent themselves as Rastafari. Jamaican’s that are Rastafari have deep religious beliefs, are vegetarians and believe in herbal treatment. Their beliefs have helped stem many medical treatments used today. Housing in Jamaica is very diverse. Many people live in cement block homes with sheet metal roofs. Homes are built on the island out of cement to withstand strong tropical storms or hurricanes. Driving through the country one may feel some homes look like small shacks compared to the United States. Expensive, high end properties are also found throughout the island as well. A few famous people occupy these gated homes placed on mountain tops overlooking the ocean. Most of these homes are open concept, gorgeous views, verandas and lavish landscaping. Tourism is what helps the island thrive. With around 2,000,000 visitors every year, Jamaica is one of the top islands to visit. Tourists can experience culture through food and beverage.
