Every mother wishes her daughter to have a better life and better behaviors. Mothers have always carried raising and taking care of children on their shoulder. Mothers taught their children every basic behavior that children may need in their daily life such as, wearing proportionate clothes, using bathrooms and even cooking. Trying to prepare children to adapt to life and its problems, mothers have been giving their children a lot of instructions. Instructions can be orders when the issue is the child’s own benefit. However, tips might not suit the daughter’s age but, the mother wanted every single detail of her daughter to be perfect. The mother knew that the daughter could take care of herself. However, she still wants to assist her daughter as much as she could. The mother gave her daughter many instructions including all what the girl might need in her daily life. In the article, the mother told her daughter to act like a responsible adult. What is more, the mother told her daughter not to sing benna on Sundays but, she did not literally mean that. However, the song was sang by a benna singer called Thomas Joseph and it says “Maude smell donkey, she smell so funky/ Me gee she water, me gee she soap/ And she still smell funky” (Jamaica Kincaid. P: 200). However, it is almost impossible to any mother to allow her daughter to listen to this kind of songs. What is more, the mother’s instruction told that the daughter is young. She was listening politely to her mother giving daily instructions without interrupting until she had a doubt. The daughter asked “ But what if the baker won’t let me feel the bread” (Jamaica Kincaid) after the mother asked her daughter to squeeze the bread the daughter felt that all of these behaviors might not give her true love.
