The incident in town happened two weeks ago and she’d isolated herself from him—no one else—just him. He’d make her understand, even if it took all day.
He stepped inside the room and shut the door. Seated at the desk, Kat didn’t acknowledge his presence. It was another harsh reminder of how he jumped to the wrong conclusions.

SStepping out of the carriage, both men stretched, hoping that particular action would alleviate their aching muscles, a direct result from their jarring ride, and said their goodnights, although almost daylight, to go their separate ways. Entering the manor, Nightburn hurried to the north wing library, opened the door, and went directly to the bookcase, easily finding the book and opening it to the page, read the passage aloud, “The power of Vilgoth is necessary. Destroy all those who would oppose Vilgoth’s will.” The bookcase opened as a result and he stepped into the passage leading to the portal below, making certain to close the panel behind and running down the stairs to step into the luminous central portal and out at the military…

It seemed as if everyone in the city was cooking, baking treats, decorating, planning, or helping set up. Accommodating thousands of people on the castle grounds required a good deal of work. Although King Arthur and Queen Guinevere made it clear they’d provide food (including the traditional roast goose), drink, and entertainment, it was customary for people to bring along their own special dishes or other contributions, such as musical instruments, knucklebones, nine pins, lengths of rope for tug-of-war, and leaves, sticks, and cloth scraps for children’s masks and costumes.…
