Jaffrey Case Study Essay

The current problem in Jaffrey is that, recently Jaffrey residents have noticed that Jaffrey Lake, which used to be clean, and a great place to swim, has changed. Slimy, green algae floats on the surface, and the water has turned very dirty. People are finding dead fish on the shore, and everyone is afraid they'll get sick if they swim in the lake. This is a major problem because, people around the lake will slowly start getting sick and one day the all the fish and plants in this water will die because the water is very very dirty. I was hired to test the water to determine the levels of Nitrates and Phosphates in this lake. I will see which parts of the lake is the highest and least contaminated.

There are 3 man made Phosphates. The 1st man made source of phosphate is when farmers apply polyphosphates to residential land as fertilizer. The 2nd man made source of phosphate is when phosphates get run down into lake from snowmelt. The 3rd man made phosphate is when detergent gets run into the lake. The are 3 natural sources of phosphate. The 1st source is when organic waste gets into the lake. The 2nd source is when untreated sewage starts to leak into water. The 3rd source is when dairies and barnyards feedlot enters the lake. The typical amount of Phosphates found in Jaffrey City lake is, s condition is. I would specifically test the parks near the lake because there are dog waste leaking into the lake. I would also test the water treatment facility which is mainly the sewage system leakage. I will also test, city of Jaffrey and south Jaffrey because, these are the most severe locations in the lake with high level of Nitrates and
