The children’s mother, Jade Spencer, 31, called 911 around 1 a.m. Monday after they were discovered not breathing and unresponsive in their apartment. She reported that both toddlers had severe asthma, and they were rushed to Montefiore Medical Center, where Olivia, the 2-year-old died at 2:10 a.m. Micah, the 3-year-old died a few minutes later. The night of the incident, the mother reported she and her boyfriend smoked pot and drank beer while they watched a movie together. She stated she fell asleep on the couch, woke up about 11pm and went to bed. She further noted, around 1:15am her boyfriend came into the room stated something was wrong with her kids.
