JAD It’s no secret Americans are the most spoiled customers in the world. We want things done fast and efficiently. Anything from services to entertainment, we expect companies to bring their A game when we spend our hard earned money. But we never stop and think about how the product came to be. Ever since Henry ford created the assembly line to make car-making more efficient, America has mastered the art of the process. Through trial and error, most great companies have found a sweet spot in which management has every single procedure down to a method. One of these methods is the Joint Application Development, also known as JAD. JAD is a team oriented tool that accelerates the design of information technology solutions. JAD deals in group focused workshops and meetings that bring together IT and business professionals to figure out the requirements of the project or the “What”. The main goal of these workshops is to get requirements right to save time later on. RAD on the other hand, deals with the actual development process of the application, in other words the “How”. Once all the requirements are gathered, RAD maps out project time frames and focuses on delivering functional prototypes in as little time as possible. The advantages of RAD are that it promotes a strong collaborative atmosphere and dynamic gathering of requirements. Business owners actively participate in prototyping, writing test cases and performing unit testing. It makes the entire development process effortless.

Individual commitment to the project. Decision making relies on the feature functionality team and a communal decision-making process with a lesser degree of centralized PM and engineering authority. It is dependent on the team for performance, Works on a modularized system confined on this methodology, and requires extremely skilled personnel to handle complexities. Additionally, it is not applicable for the small budgeted projects. Projects are capitalizing on the efficiency these methods bring thanks to the communication, the betas and the tweaks the product undergoes before final production. The customer receives a much more reliable product. This is a win/win situation as companies are saving more money and time as they master these methods.
