First thing I’ve noticed is a parabola upside down, which is symbolizing mountain. A group of people gathering on the edge of the mountain. On the very bottom, everyone was holding some kind of tools on their hand. At the middle in the right hand corner, there is a tree and one person is raising his/her hand towards the tree. In the middle line, there are three people on the left holding a long tool on the left hands, which could be a torch or a spear with their chin rise up high.…

Edward Hick an amazing artist was able to capture the perfect world in his oil painting called, “The Peaceable Kingdom”. He painted this unattainable world in 1847. Martha Graham’s “Lamentation,” like many of her other works, is a direct expression of emotion; an expression of emotion through body movements. Graham was known as the “Mother of Modern Dance” and for her technique “contraction and release.” She also focused on the stability and strength of the body and keeping its control. This technique was in efforts to develop and maintain flexibility in the spine and hips, specifically in a seated position. “Lamentation” was created in response to the grief, sorrow and anger during the Great Depression.…

The painting is in form of asymmetrical balance, although both the left and right contain similar elements, which are a humanoid figure and a tree, the visual weight is heavier on the right due to the usage of a more saturated colour, which creates a more intense contrast between the red of the humanoid figure and the green of the tree nearby. Moreover, the size of the forms mentioned above is also larger than those of the left, and thus also contribute to the heavier visual weight. In terms of movement and rhythm, as a viewer myself, I would first look at the humanoid figure on the right, then follow his gaze to look up to the trees and then to the sky above, then to the door on the left and then to the tree and humanoid figure on the left.…

During the French Revolution and Napoleonic era, there were apparent introductions of Roman culture into the artwork and the lifestyles of the French people. Many of these influences on the artwork depicted Roman political struggles and corresponded with current events of Napoleon's reign and the French Revolution, specifically matching Napoleon and King Luis’s government to Roman figures in both a good and bad ways. Three paintings by Jacques-Louis David; Oath of the Horatii, The Lictors Bringing to Brutus the Bodies of His Sons and Leonidas at Thermopylae are the starting points for the style of Neo-classism. Neo-classism in art can be identified as a time when Roman culture expressed through art widely shaped the culture of France during…

Lighting the Olympic Torch In the image I see two women in front of four other women on the background all of them wearing white dresses and sandals that look similar to those worn during the Roman empire period. One of the women who is in the front is kneeling down with both of her hands stretched out with a bowl that is ignited towards the other women, who is a leader or an important figure. The image demonstrates her as a leader role by her standing up while the woman with the bowl is kneeling down and the rest of the woman are in the background aligned. The leader is also lighting the olympic torch as shown by the name of the picture. Based on the surrounding and background of the picture they are in an ancient Roman ruins.…

The focal point of the image, ‘Oliver Asking for More,’ is the gentleman standing opposite the other people who are seated. The man attracts the attention at first glance because he looks bigger than the other people in the picture, and his clothes are painted white while the other people have their clothes painted dark. After gazing at the image of the man, my eyes are then attracted to his legs. The legs look bent while he leans on the wall. The attention of the gaze of the legs is based on the eagerness to understand if he naturally has bent legs or the legs appear bent because he is leaning on the wall.…

I agree that Rousseau defends the morality of the men against the science and arts. He argue that the advancement of science had not been a beneficial to the world and to the mankind. Yes it creates new ideas and opportunity but the knowledge's progress resulted to powerful government and had the ability to crushed someone's liberty and freedom. As Jasmine said that science actually cover the cruelty inside us, because we don't even noticed it we forget that we are not free. The more people live exposed to society the more people don't see how the nature or the second character change to them, it become an ambiguity in which you don't see if you are a slaved of the complexity and power of the present day society.…

The artwork “Bust of Paris” can be seen on the left side and the lines used are to create a form of body, which can be specifically seen in hair with fine details. Line is also created to show creases in sculpture, also seen in lips and eyes. There is thick line on bottom of bust by pillar, but there is thin delicate line in hair with subtle line in body. Also there is heavy line on top of hat. These lines are implied into chiseled pieces, which build up in lines in hair.…

    1. Figure 4.3, Going Home by Jacob Lawrence. This piece was created in 1946, and was painted with gouache, which is an opaque type of watercolor. I personally did not like this piece, I’m not a fan of the medium used, but nevertheless I found it interesting. In my opinion, the low value and intensity of the yellows and greens are unappealing, I think they make this train or bus seem outdated and old, or just dirty.…

The Oath of the Horatii, commissioned by King Louis XVI, was originally designed to unite the suffering people of France in support of him and his rule, but ultimately backfired, as it was used as propaganda for the rebels during the French Revolution. The Oath of the Horatii inspires patriotism among people, ensuring they are loyal to their country and their rulers. The pose taken by the three brothers is also seen in the Third of May in the soldiers with their guns drawn. The meaning behind the figures differs greatly however because the soldiers in Goya’s painting face away from the viewer. This transforms the french soldiers from patriotic fighters, to a mindless killing machine, slaughtering a massive line of innocent peasants.…
