Jacob's Grandfather: Abe Portman

When first beginning to read this novel the reader may think that Jacob’s grandfather, Abe, must be utterly insane, but in actuality Abe has been trying to tell his whole family the unbelievably true stories from his past. The reader might also think that Jacob lives an incredibly average life, but this novel never fails to prove the reader wrong. In the beginning of this novel Jacob Portman tells the reader that in his younger years he used to idolize his grandfather, Abe Portman. Abe Portman has lived an extraordinary life, from being raised in an orphanage and fighting in wars to even preforming in circuses. After hearing grandfather’s last words, telling him to “go to the island”, Jacob comes face to tentacle with the monster that had killed his grandfather. No one believes Jacob’s story about how the monster killed his grandfather. Jacob begins to get depressed and starts having nightmares. Because of the nightmares and depression, he starts seeing a psychiatrist, Dr. Golan. Dr. Golan soon suggests that Jacob go to the island that is grandfather was telling him about, he thought that this would give Jacob some closure with his grandfather along with finding an explanation for Abe’s last …show more content…
Golan was a Wight! Jacob unknowingly leads him straight to Miss Peregrine, because of this Dr. Golan kidnaps Miss Peregrine along with her mentor, Miss Avocet and rushes them out to sea. Dr. Golan has Miss Peregrine stuck in here peregrine bird form at this time while Miss Avocet is taken away. Since Miss Peregrine cannot change back to human form to reset the time loop, the day of the bomb dropping finally comes and the house is destroyed. Jacob and his peculiar friends kill Dr. Golan and the Hollowgast that are trying to sabotage them Even though Jacob is fully aware that he can never return to his extraordinarily normal life if he decides to stay with Miss Peregrine and her peculiar children in the past, he continues to accompany Emma Bloom and her mission to save Miss Avocet and Miss Peregrine. Jacob goes back to the current day and says his goodbyes to his father, then returns back to 1940. To conclude the novel, Jacob, his peculiar friends, and Miss Peregrine float away in a small boat to an unknown
