Winter had set in, and already he was restless. The house was quiet, housing just him, Christine and their son Holt until next hunting season when clients would fill the lodges. For ten years, he had lived for the fall when he could guide hunters into the mountains. But now he felt edgy. Unsatisfied.
He yanked open the mailbox and reached inside for the pile of envelopes. He turned back to the house, thumbing through junk mail when one particular envelope caught his eye.

"He...Hey babe, what's that?"
Jacob wasn't fooled, but he was surprised at her audacity to lie to his face. "It's a letter addressed to you."
Christine let out a strangled laugh. "It's probably from Aggie, you know how much she loves to share gossip."
Eyes narrowed "Really? I've never heard Aggie gossip in all the years I've known her."
Jacob learned over the years married to Christine that she didn't like being backed into a corner, so he wasn't overly surprised when she lashed out.
"Oh! And tell me Jacob Walker what makes you think you know my sister better then me?" she growled, through clenched teeth.
"I never implied that I know her better then you, but I do know that Aggie is the most sweetest and kindest woman. She would never gossip about others. If you want to keep the letter a secret then so be it, but don't drag your sister into it."
She gasped in surprise. Jacob had never snapped at her before now. He just couldn't understand how his wife could be so heartless.
