Jacob And His Father Character Analysis

Jacob and his father, Franklin, have an exceedingly complex relationship. Jacob possess peculiar traits, so he can notice images that remarkably few people can see, and his father has a difficult time comprehending this. Convinced that Jacob is all caught up in his grandfather’s nostalgic tales of the island, Franklin has a tough time relating to his son. It is perceptible that Jacob just wants to have a normal relationship with his father: “I wanted to tell him. I wanted to explain everything, and for him to tell me he understood and offer some tidbit of parental advice.” (Riggs 268). He cannot determine if he should stay on the island in the time loop, or depart back home to his family. From this, I predict Jacob will stay in the time loop with the children. For one, Jacob is not always comfortable at home due to his parents. Plus, he no longer is safe outside of the loop. Jacob fears for his safety: “ I’d spend the rest of my days living in fear, looking over my shoulder, tormented by nightmares, waiting for them to finally come back and punch my ticket.” (Riggs 271). There are wights and hollowghasts all over, and he would spend the rest of his life in terror. By leaving, Jacob is also putting Miss Peregrines life in jeopardy, risking the chance of leading the wights to the cairn. In addition, Jacob and Emma have started a bit of a romance, you could sense the spark the moment they met. Emma, previously, had a relationship with Jacob’s grandfather, Abe, so it seems a bit peculiar that they would be together. Nonetheless, they fell in love and shared a kiss. Since Jacob cares so much for Emma, he may not want to leave her. Jacob may chose to stay at the home for peculiar children, but Miss Peregrine’s over-protectiveness might be too much for Jacob to handle ☺ (Hyphenated
