My high conscientiousness suggests that I am thorough with decision-making and set myself high standards (Jackson, 2015). The positive of this trait is that I am planful, organized and purposeful, I collect all the information required when completing a task and I set high expectations for myself (Barrick, 1993). The negative to this is that I too often overthink decisions and be cautious to the point where I am afraid to set goals incase I fail. On the other hand, my low mastery score proposes that I am not goal orientated and avoid failure; therefore I am more unlikely to set goals due to lack of confidence in the likelihood of achieving them, this coincides with my high conscientiousness. My low score also indicates that, though I am enthusiastic about learning, I am not achievement orientated and therefore do not have a specific goal in mind when learning a new skill (O’Connor and Jackson, …show more content…
The goals will start out as simple and gradually become more challenging; this will allow me to gradually become more confident in setting and completing goals (MindTools, 2011). Not only do daily goals form the habit of creating and following through set goals but they also work as the building blocks for future goals and can be used to work towards a larger goal (King, 1998).
The second step is setting five goals. One that will be achieved in five years time, one that will be achieved in a years time, another in 6 months, another in one month and one within a week’s time (MindTools, 2011). Breaking down a large goal into smaller ones makes it more manageable (Cain, 2013). I aim to be able to set these goals by next month after working through the first step.
I will determine if taking these steps were successful but retaking the Jackson’s test in December of this year and determining whether I successfully completed my 6-month goal, which is selected in the second stage of my accomplishing my goal.
