Jackson Deon Davis is an extremely interesting man, with an interesting story. As you know for confidential reasons I will be changing his name and the places we talked about. when I first got into contract with Mr. Davis he was reluctant to sit down and talk to me about his story. I know his story though hearsay but not from him. Even though I know Mr. Davis for almost 18 years he still was reluctant to sit down with me. After assuring that his name and information will be change and moved around he decided to let me interview him. Mr. Davis is a 26-year-old Africa American man with 1 children with his ex and two more with his current girlfriend. And his first week a white student their called him a nigger. I ask Mr. Davis what he did after that and he told me “do you want me to tell you the truth or do you want me to tell you something you can write in your paper”. Of course, I want the truth and when I said yes, he told me well I socked him in the face and didn’t stop until he was pulled of the student. He processed to get suspended for a week and get in trouble at home. I went on to ask him was it worth it and he smiled and said well at the time yes it was. Next I asked, how he dealt with discrimination and racism today and he simply told me nothing, I just let it roll off my back, because it was nothing I could do. He says the way he deals with discrimination and racism is my showing the people doing these things that one it is not affecting you and two, that instead of getting angry, he will get an education, career, and he will be the man that they assume he is not.
