He went on for a bit on how he would look at the student differently and then said “unless you want to forget about this”. This seemed like a personal threat to the student with grading and the general relationship with Reshetov. We found this extremely inappropriate, especially due to the fact that the student had already explained to his authority that her “disrespect” was not intentional and apologized for the way she came across. We understand that students can be disrespectful, and that should never be tolerated, but this was an extreme reaction to a student whose intent was not to be uncivil or ill-mannered. We are very scared that something that we might say could be misinterpreted and cause him to look at us in a negative way.…

Wednesday, September 16th, 2015 I did my observation of Paul Dunbar Middle School. Some of the first things I noticed when I entered the school was how enormous the school’s population is and how the school was mostly Hispanic and African American students. I arrived at the front desk and was asked by the assistant principal what was my preference of classroom. She then proceeded to take me the section of the school where the ESE classes are held. ESE stands for exceptional student education classes.…

Characteristics of truly unique leaders With the changes being made to improve formal education in the United States, African Americans remained one of the last groups to be considered part of these changes. From slavery to segregation, many African American leaders withstood these obstacles to uplift the black community. Among these leaders, were Frederick Douglass and W.E.B DuBois. Douglass’ anti-slavery movement helped slaves gain their freedom. He believed individuals needed to be educated well enough to understand the consequences of slavery.…

From the video you could see that he was treating her harshly, using physical force to remove her from her desk and throw her to the ground (Brown). The video prompted widespread discussion on whether it was appropriate for police officers to be in a classroom if it resulted in such physical force used against students. The argument made is that SROs should not be in schools because of incidents such as this one. I agree that this situation was handled incorrectly. The video showed a brutality used on a young student that may not have been necessary.…

I believe that it was unfair that the teacher, Alan Barron, was suspended. Mr. Barron was only doing what he thought to be moral when showing the students about the extent of racism in the past. This is a significant part of history and this teacher was doing his job by displaying an example that he felt will better explain their current chapter/unit. The video that Alan Barron showed to the students was to show them how the white people disguised themselves as African- Americans which was a way of mockery. In the past, white people viewed themselves as superior to black people, because of slavery which enable the white slave owners the right to have possession over the African-Americans.…

If you’ve ever walked down the halls of Worland High School in the last couple of years then you are probably familiar with a certain teacher who has been mesmerizing and inspiring students for years. This teacher, like many teachers at Worland High, has the ability to transform students from simple minded balls of clay, to Michelangelo sculpted philosophers. The teacher about whom I’m talking of is not only a teacher, but a doctor which is even more reason to believe everything that he says. This is, of course, is Dr. Tim McGee, English teacher at Worland High School. Dr. McGee has been teaching at our high school for quite some time now and has been posing students questions without any answers for just as long.…

Overall, Readicide was an interesting book and an eye opener to what we can do for our students. As future teachers, we need to research ways to add reading for enjoyment back into the classrooms. Every teacher knows state testing is important, but it is not more important than knowing how to read. My first critique is he works in Los Angeles where most of his students are poor and are minorities, so why does he assumes all schools are just like his? Another critique I have is his problem with sticky notes.…
