Jack’s Savagery
In Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, Jack represents the savagery of human nature. When Ralph is elected chief, he tells Jack that the choir can be hunters. After the boys have been on the island for a while, Ralph tries to talk to Jack, but, “Jack had to think for a moment before he could remember what rescue was” (53). This shows how when away from conventional society, humans revert back to a more primitive state. Jack is so preoccupied with the hunt, that he does not even think about being rescued. Jack is obsessed with killing a pig to obtain meat, and this causes conflict with some of the other boys who are more concentrated on being rescued.
