Jackie's Role In Social Work

Jackie has been brought to the social work organization not understanding why she is there. Jackie says she is forced to be here by her mother and the principle at her school. This is the first time Jackie has been at this social work organization. Jackie stated that she is angry to be here, and asks why she is here. Social worker explains to Jackie that this is voluntary, and she can leave anytime she wants. The social worker also explained there is an hour to use if Jackie would like to stay. Jackie is surprised to see that she is to be there for an hour and thought the session would only be ten minutes. Jackie is 15 years old and identifies as black. Jackie says that everyone tells her that she can’t. Jackie states that mom is hell to live with; she stated that mom has …show more content…
Jackie discusses the relationship with her mom, stating that they did not fight as much. Jackie fights with her mom about her sisters due to taking care of them a lot. Jackie states that she needs time to be a teenager, but never can go out with her friends. She says mom is working more, and is asking her to grow up. Jackie states that these are not her kids but basically plays their mom. Jackie says her and mom also fight about school. Jackie says last year she was involved in band, playing the piccolo. She is not involved in band this year due to her grades. Jackie asked what grades really mean, anyway. Jackie discusses possibly dropping out when she turns 16. Jackie does the cleaning, which mom is not always satisfied of her job, and she does the cooking. Jackie says her mom also sleeps a lot due to working so much. Jackie states she is mad at her mom but does respect her because mom takes care of them. When Jackie asks her mom about it, her mom tells her it is “grown up person’s business.” Jackie stated that she enjoys cooking, specifically soul food where she discussed cooking her favorite chicken
