Many people face life-changing experiences that change their lives and sometimes their country. Some examples are Melba Beals, Jackie Robinson, and Feng Ru. These three people all faced life-changing events that impacted their lives and countries greatly. Jackie Robinson and Melba Beals faced many racial slurs and faced many physical and verbal threats. But in the end, they both brought one step up for the civil rights of many African Americans. While Feng Ru made an airplane and brought and made his country great by bringing industrialization to China. When he joined he knew of many risks he would face. Jackie Robinson wasn’t accepted by his teammates because he was black. He faced many racists comments and faced both physical and verbal threats to him and his family. These obstacles made it hard for Jackie Robinson to play. But Jackie Robinson responded by working to be a better player so people just see him as a good player. Because of these events, they caused Jackie Robinson to grow and develop. Jackie Robinson learned to appreciate the people who care about him his wife, Mr. Rickey, black people, and the young. Even though he faced many obstacles and wasn’t appreciated by many people, “Black people supported me with total loyalty”(Robinson). The blacks showed Jackie Robinson total loyalty because they were “Suppressed and repressed for so many years, they needed a victorious black man as a symbol. It would help them believe in themselves.” (Robinson). It shows that they weren’t appreciated much like Jackie, so when he broke the color line and became the first black player in the Major Leagues they supported him fully. Melba Beals had to face a lot of threats. Some of the threats including segregationists mobs and The National Guard. These events made it hard for her to get to school. Although a lot of people despised her, a lot of people despised her, a lot of people supported her too. Some of those supporters were her friends, the government, and her family. The government sent an army to Melba and the “Little Rock Nine” so that they can arrive at school safely. Because they did so much Melba learned to appreciate the government for what they have done. Melba feels “Proud that I lived in a country that would go this far to bring justice to a Little Rock girl like me, but sad that they had to go to such great lengths”(Beals). Even though Melba faced many obstacles, in the end, Melba got to the school and walked up the stairs where no one of her kind has ever walked as a student. “Step by step we climbed upward-where none of my people had ever before walked as a student” (Beals).
