Robinson played baseball, basketball, football, and ran track at UCLA. Jackie broke the color barrier in 1947. Throughout every baseball game, he would have face many obstacles such as racial slurs, death threats and stacks of hate mail. During the game, he would have to deal with racist coaches, such as Ben Chapman from the Philadelphia Phillies, that would tell their pitcher to intentionally hit Robinson with their pitches. Robinson’s daughter even stated that her father "retaliated against the racism unleashed against him on the playing field by performing with unparalleled excellence." Robinson was a representative for the African Americans all over the world and had to show everyone that African Americans can play baseball just as good
