On July 6, 1944, during boot camp at Fort Hood, Texas, Robinson was arrested and court-martialed for refusing to give up his seat and move to the back of a segregated bus. In this example from 1944 we see a Great example of hate, prejudice and, white supremacy. This is a great example because Jackie was arrested because of him being different from the other individual. But not only did they arrest them but they court-martialed him for simply not moving to another seat when he was their first. This relates back to the theme of hate because they showed hate towards him by court-martialing him to show their white supremacy and to make an example out of him.Similarly, in the Crucible we see this reoccurring theme of hate that radiates throughout the play.On page 99 ,Giles says “My proof is there! Pointing to the paper. If Jacobs hangs for a witch he forfeits up his property - that's law! And there is none but Putnam with the; coin to buy so great a piece. This man is killing his neighbors for their land!”This quote shows us that there is a vital disconnect in the limbic system part of the human brain which in return controls feelings and emotions. For one to want to kill their neighbor for a piece of land there is something wrong with them this shows nothing but hate

“The Crucible” by Arthur Miller is a play about The Salem Witch Trial;he is comparing it to the McCarthyism. He wrote this play to show that McCarthyism was just as crazy as the Salem Witch Trials. During the time Miller was writing this play, Joseph McCarthy was hunting for communists in America like the Salem judges were hunting for witches. Abigail Williams is the antagonist of the entire play, even though she is not the equivalent of McCarthy. She does have a real-life counterpart who is actually much younger, but just as responsible for the hysteria that took place in Salem.…

At this point where one learns about them on a deeper level results in the individual undergoing a change in character. Within Arthur Miller’s Play, The Crucible, this idea of conflict sparking the change within a character is a constant underlying focus as the play’s theme depicts how individuals and society respond to times of crisis. It is a known fact that Arthur Miller wrote the play as an allegory for the alarming events such as The Red Scare and McCarthyism, which took place within the twentieth century. While Arthur Miller clearly wrote the play The Crucible to demonstrate his belief that an individual should never give up the power to think for him or herself, he also intended it to be an allegory for the Red Scare of the 1950’s called McCarthyism. In both The Crucible and the McCarthy era, the ability claim a person was either a witch or a communist can be considered unfair and even illogical. In both events, once a person was suspected, he or she was then forced to give the names of other suspected “witches” or “communists.” In The Crucible, the girls are caught dancing in the woods and are bombarded with questions from Rev. Hale and Rev. Parris.…

The McCarthy Era began during the Cold War, a time that led to widespread paranoia and suspicion of the communist population (also known as the Red Scare). This resulted in a fear of the spread of communism in the United States. Senator Joseph McCarthy set up “witch hunts” in search of people who practiced communism. The people who were accused were given the option of refusing to testify, which would result in them being blacklisted; subsequently causing their careers to suffer. If people called McCarthy’s acted on communism “The Modern Day Witch Trials”, then could we say that The Crucible to be considered to be called “The Light of McCarthyism”? Could being accused of being a witch can be considered to be the same as being accused of being a communist? Both events had a person of power (or a person who gained power over accusations) who accused people of being either a witch or a communist (Abigail Williams in The Crucible, and Senator Joseph McCarthy during the Second Red Scare) (Bonnet,…
