I couldn’t feel anything. I just stood in the middle of the room and stared blankly at the white walls around me. Bare and lifeless, that’s what my life has become It’s almost as if I died with her that day. The people in the room were filled with grief, sadness or rage. Me? Well I was completely empty looking at her just lying there not saying one word. I should have died with her that day at least that’s what the doctors told me. It’s been three weeks five hours, twenty seven minutes, and thirty-six seconds since I last saw the light in Jackie’s eyes. First I stop over on high Wire Street to pick up Mitch then I only have one more road to drive down to pick up Tom and Betty Ocala. Once Betty has finally found her keys I’m off to pick up the only girl I’ve ever known that was able to spit a lugi from one side of Cooper River all the way to the other and still look beautiful doing it. Jackie Rodayo was a 5’5 red head with ivy skin but not one freckle could be found on her. She laughed when she wasn’t supposed to and would somehow get us into all sorts of trouble growing up. One time in high school she convinced me to run for homecoming king, but that wasn’t the bad part she dared me that when I walk down the football field in the ceremony to take of my dress shirt and reveal my t-shirt underneath which read “Principle Hartman sucks balls”. I got two weeks suspension for that but it was well worth it because Jackie skipped school and was right by my side the entire time. She was my better half and quite honestly my best friend. We met when I was five on the playground at the church of the cross, she was the new girl and Rick Sanchez was sitting behind her pouring dirt in her hair while the other kids laughed and
