Jackie Film Analysis

Jackie is a film about First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy. The film debuted at the Drexel Theatre in Bexley, on January 27th, 2017. The film is about Jackie Kennedy, the First Lady and wife of John F. Kennedy who was assassinated during his presidency. Following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, Jackie fights through grief and trauma to regain her faith, console her children, and define her husband’s historic legacy. Interestingly, there are essentially two movies in Jackie, immediately before, during and after the assassination of her husband. The first movie is when Jackie sits for a long interview, with a magazine reporter. In this portion, it seems as if Jackie, the most important person, is seeking to find her place in history and tries to control how she is perceived by those around her. Unfortunately, this part seems to be overdone and the reporter often comes off as condescending to the First Lady. Often, he places words into her mouth or dismisses her concerns, devaluing her importance. This ideal nearly carries over to a flashback that Jackie later has, showing her that she should not speak up to men as she just needs to give up. This portion is the story of a woman who suddenly, violently loses her husband, then had to figure out how to get through the next few days of her life without surrendering her sanity along with any power she once had. The routine nature of this second movie is what makes the film seem so accurate. For example, details, such as, the specific bloodstains on Jackie’s clothes, the bruise on her shin as she removes her stockings, and the catch in her voice as she tries to tell her children that their father is dead without using the word “death” are all shown. These details not only make the film seem eerily accurate, but also like you are in the moment and you can feel the pain she is
