Jackie Antonell As A Grease Ball In Shirley Jackson's Story

Improved Essays
In dire need of work, Jackie asked Henry to recommend him to Mr. Hairston. When told about Jackie, Mr. Hairston responded with, “Jackie Antonell is a grease ball.” Consequently, Jackie did not get the job and was mad at Henry. Later in the story, Jackie made fun of Henry calling out, “Still living next door to the crazy house?” Always wanting to fight, always making fun of others, always smirking, Jackie continued to egg Henry on. Full of rage, Henry lunged at Jackie. With rage in their eyes, the two boys fought. Being pulled off of each other, they kicked and punched, without landing a blow. Able to talk then, Jackie whined, “He attacked me.”
