When Scream Factory announced they were releasing Jack's Back on Blu-ray, I never even heard of the flick before. After reading up on it and finding out it starred James Spader and had to do with a modern-day Jack the Ripper, my interests in checking it out with through the roof. After finally getting my hands on it and sitting down to watch it, I came out liking it quite a bit, but was surprised to find out that the actually Jack the Ripper material was actually just the catalyst for the actually story involving a man on the run from the law and trying to figure out who his brother's murder is. The movie does come back around to the Ripper subplot and it effectively keeps the murderer's identity a secret for most of the movie, but I would …show more content…
Now, a modern-day maniac is honoring the event by mutilating L.A.'s ladies of the evening. Has Jack the Ripper been reborn? The police are stumped and the prostitutes of L.A. are scared. The only person with a chance of solving the murders has a problem of his own – he's the LAPD's number one suspect.

James Spader (The Blacklist, Avengers: Age Of Ultron) and Cynthia Gibb (Death Warrant, Youngblood) star in this taut mystery-thriller written and directed by Rowdy Herrington (Road House).

MOVIE

Without ruining the twists and turns of the movie, I can barely talk about the story. I can tell you that the plot summary above kind of summarizes the flick, but the movie has less to do with the Ripper and more to do with James Spader being on the run from the law and trying to solve his brother's murder. If you're expecting to go into a movie that's all about a modern retelling of Jack the Ripper, you're probably going to be

James Spader does a fantastic job in the role and Cynthia Gibb is very easy on the eyes. The movie also does an excellent job at keeping the identity of the Ripper a secret. I did figure out who the killer was before the end credits, but that wasn't before the movie had me second guessing my theory. I also want to mention that there was a part near the end where I thought the movie was going to end and not reveal who the killer really was and I thought to myself, damn that's brave of them, but alas, the movie kept going. I would have loved to see the movie end there, but the more I think about it, the more I probably would have been frustrated not knowing. Having said that, the movie doesn't explain why the killer goes after another victim when his cycle of mimicking the Ripper was complete. I assume it was just thrown in to give the movie a longer runtime and an actual

It is generally believed that the killer must have been interrupted. In each of the Whitechapel murders, evidence suggest the assailant was a psychopath who garnered sexual satisfaction from the power of violence: It is likely that Jack the Ripper utilized the violence of stabbing and slashing his victims with a knife as methods for exerting his power and control over the victim. He used a knife to penetrate the victim, and satisfied himself through the eroticized power of violence, the domination of the victim, and the mutilation and bleeding of the victim, rather than sexual intercourse (Keppel et al.…

The evaluation of the story you made was well established. However, I don't think that providing or mentioning Maureen friends'' names served as boost to the story rather it was a distraction since they were not mentioned again nor the story was influenced by them. I agree that not providing the kidnapper's name eliminated any discretions from the main character. Additionally, You were able to identify all of the points, that Starkey's checklist provided, and reflect on the story. Adebayo, I think if the writer were to mention or give us more details on the kidnapper's life and traits, the story might not be considered a short story anymore.…
