A lot of people want to blame the parents of the offenders, asking “what did you turn your child into?” 36% of serial killers were physically abused, 26% were sexually abused, and 50% were psychologically abused (Mitchell and Aamodt 45). Many people have logically come to the conclusion that just because someone is abused, it does not mean that they will become a serial killer; or even a murderer; which is true. In the general population (people who have never committed murder) only 6% are physically abused, 3% are sexually abused, and 2% are psychologically abused (Mitchell and Aamodt 45). The dramatic difference of abuse frequency between people who are serial killers and people who are not seems evident enough to support that serial killers are created.…

The fifth and worst murder of all of the victims was Mary Kelly, which took place in November of 1888; she was thought to be the last victim of Jack the Ripper (“Whitechapel”). In late December of 1888, Druitt was found drowned in the Thames River of apparent suicide (“Jack”). This event brought on a series of questions, to which most people answered with Druitt being Jack the Ripper. In the suicide letter found in his coat pocket, he said, “Since Friday I felt I was going to be like mother, and the best thing for me to die (“Casebook”).” To explain in further detail, his mother dealt with a mental illness, and then she went away to a facility, where she committed suicide.…

Peter William Sutcliffe otherwise known as ‘The Yorkshire Ripper ' was arrested on January 1st, 1981 after a murderous spree which spanned five years and claimed the lives of 13 women and attempting to murder a further seven (see appendix for details of victims). The case engulfed the nation as one of the most brutal in modern history since that of ‘Jack the Ripper ' in the 1800 's hence why the media adopted the term ‘Yorkshire ripper ' when addressing the case. Although known for the heinous crimes and number of them the case is also infamous for the failings of the West Yorkshire Police force in its hunt of Sutcliffe. The tension throughout West Yorkshire left neighbour suspecting neighbour and women afraid to be out at night alone. Despite the efforts of the police force, it was a standard patrol with an experienced officer who was training another that caught Sutcliffe and brought an end to his spree.…

Not all the skeletons in Britain’s closet are as well known as Jack the Ripper but they are just as cruel and unusual serial killers, such as Amelia Dryer and the couple Fred and Rose West .…
