The mystery began when Jack the Ripper, an unidentified serial killer, made his first killing around the Whitechapel district of London in 1888. John Pizer a bootmaker in Whitechapel, who, at the beginning of the Whitechapel murders, was suspected to be the killer. He had been convicted for a stabbing offence and was believed to have assaulted prostitutes. After two of the Whitechapel murders, Police Sergeant William Thicke arrested Pizer, even though there was no evidence against him. He was later cleared of suspicion when he has alibis for the two murders. Dr. Thomas Neill Cream was another suspect. He was found guilty for poisoning his mistress’s husband and was imprisoned. However, because of good behavior, he was released. He then moved to London where he resumed killing and was soon arrested. He was to be hung on November 15, 1892. According to some unknown sources his last words were recorded as, “I am Jack the… “, interpreted to mean Jack the Ripper. Another suspect, Frederick Bailey Deeming had murdered his first wife and four children near St. Helen, Lancashire. His crime went undiscovered and he later moved to Australia with his second wife whom he has also killed. Her body was found buried under their house and the investigation led to the discovery of the others murdered bodies in England. He was later arrested,sent to trial and was found guilty of murder. Many people suspected that he his tendencies towards women revealed some sort of evidence that he was Jack the Ripper. Lewis Carroll was often found among the presence of women. Although Carroll never married, it was believed that he had affairs with both married and unmarried women. This lead to the theory that he was Jack the Ripper because of the victims. Jack the Ripper’s victims were all female prostitutes. Since Lewis Carroll had a strong attraction to women, it wouldn't be farfetched if he was ever in brothel, leading people to the conclusion that he killed the canonical
