Jack The Ripper: A Short Story

The night, cold and young, was motionless. Nothing, not a single mouse scurried down the street, the wind stood still, the moon covered by clouds, only poking out from behind the clouds for a split second. Suddenly, something scuttled down a shadowy alley, cold pushing its warm skin back. Lamps flickered as it ran by, climbing walls and jumping from ledge to ledge from above. A woman changing in her room with the window opened screamed when she saw it for a split second, before being torn to pieces by its clawed hand. The clang of chain could be heard whenever it breathed or thought about moving. Somebody stood in the middle of the street, ready to face this beast head on. The street lamps flickered as the bare feet of this thing hit the brick …show more content…
The beast took a step into the light, revealing to be a man with his mouth sewn shut. His cheeks were all but gone and blood dripped out of his mouth, no doubt from his previous victim. He had metal melded into his hands, the flesh making the blades one with his hand and arm. It stood hunched over, and it took the girl's head in the other hand and threw it to the side. It gurgled something inaudible, but that didn't matter to the man standing in front of it. “Jack the Ripper, for your crimes against this town and inhumane treatment of these fair people, you are hereby ordered an execution from yours truly, Dawn the Slasher. I will not show mercy for what you have done.” The man said in a low voice. The beast charged, blood no running onto its chest and down to its pants. It didn't wear a shirt, showing all the cuts and scars, no doubt from self mutilation. Dawn drew his rapier with the speed only rivaled by a lightning strike, and drew it upward while kneeling down to dodge the clawed swing of Jack. The creature stepped back wailing and holding its now freshly sliced chest. “I do not expect you to comply with me, there is no turning you back …show more content…
"Hey, if this is the way we go down, I want to tell you something dear to my heart. You were the closest thing that I have ever had for a friend, in this unforgiving and relentless world that doesn't quit in its attempts to ruin the lives of all its inhabitants. Dawn, if I die and you live, I want you to float my body, no matter how mangled, down the river and keep my rifle. Dawn studied her, then the beasts, contemplating talking to her again, why didn't he ever say anything to her before this, before death had threatened them. He sighed, if he was gonna talk to her, he might as well show her his face. He undid the mask bindings, two simple leather straps that were bolted to the side. He let the mask fall into his hand, the cool night pounding into his face. He looked back at the girl, who now, from body language, she was shaking and frightened. The number of creatures grew at an alarming rate. He smiled for the first time in over 20 years, and the girl looked at him and slumped her shoulders. "Oh my god, if only I knew it," she

Jack the Ripper: the Monster of White Chapel, by playwright Joe Dickinson. This play was honestly like nothing I’ve ever seen before. There were so many great elements to the show, the humor, audience interaction, props and just full of character to name a few. I had the pleasure of viewing this piece with several apparent regulars to the Pocket Sandwich Theatre off of East Mockingbird, Dallas Tx, on 10/15/15.…

The second “wolf” in this story is drastically subtler than the outwardly terrifying worm creature, this wolf is less physical and more conceptual. This ferocious and terrifying “wolf” is the universally known terrible feeling that we call grief. Grief is defined as “keen mental suffering or distress over affliction or loss; sharp sorrow; painful regret.” This definition fits perfectly with the story presented in Emily Carroll’s “Through the Woods” in the short story “The Nesting Place”. Our dreary yet relatable main character Mabel, or Bel, is not only haunted by the monster in this story; she is also haunted by the grief that comes with the loss of her mother.…
