Jack Prelutsky was born on September 8 1940 in Brooklyn, New York.When he was still a baby a fire burn his family’s apartment. He was very poor growing up. He went to public school in the Bronx and hated poetry as a child. He went to the High School of Music & Art and after that he went to Hunter College and flunked english 3 times before dropping out. After dropping out of college he worked odd jobs here and there.
Prelutsky liked to draw fantasy animals. His friends encouraged him to see if they could be published. He wrote short poems to go with the drawings.
