As Ernest Hemingway once said, “All things truly wicked start from innocence.” (Hemingway, A Moveable Feast) His actions had to be derived from somewhere because all things are born naïve and innocent according to Hemingway. Jack’s aging could have created the Jack that needed to control everything on the island which led to the brutal murders of two other young, innocent children, even if all things start from innocence. His death was also a cause of Jack’s actions for driving fear into the brains of all his tribe’s members. He controlled them using this fear to contort and twist their minds to do his will, which in this case was to kill Piggy. Roger may have “pulled the trigger” but he knew that Jack despised Piggy with all his being, so he assumed that Jack would approve of that course of action that took place. This affected all the boys, whether it was the guilt of another boy dead, or just the feeling of accomplishment after the “enemy” of their tribe had died by their actions to kill Piggy.
