The definition of a leader is a person who is in control or in charge of a person or a group. A leader can be anyone being an effective takes a lot more. To be an effective leader you have to be trustworthy, Civilized, and open minded. In the novel , Lord of the Flies by William Golding, Jack is not an effective leader for the boys because he is Manipulating, uncivilized , and aggressive. Jacks manipulating behavior makes him an ineffective leader. This action is shown when the boys are gathered around the beach discussing if the boys might have seen the beast that night too. Jack blows the conch calling an assembly saying “Ralph thinks you're cowards, running away from the boar and the beast. And that's not all’’(120). Jack is manipulating the boys into believing that Ralph is saying they’re cowards so he can have full control. Ralph didn’t say they were cowards. Jack was being manipulated by lying to the boys so they would make him their leader. Manipulating and lying are not a good way to become an effective leader. Therefore Jack being manipulating to the boys makes him an ineffective leader so is him being uncivil. …show more content…
This action was shown when jack tries to kill Ralph. Ralph goes to castle rock and sees that Samneric are guarding the entrance.Ralph tries to convince Samneric that together they stand a chance against Jack and his tribe. The twins refuse to join him and say “They’re going to hunt you tomorrow (170). This means that Jack and his tribe are going to kill Ralph. Jack trying to kill Ralph makes him uncivilized. Civilized people don’t go and try to kill other people because they don’t like them,for power or because they feel like it. Civilized people will try their best to solve their problems as peaceful as possible. If Jack’s uncivilized behavior makes an effective leader so does him being
