Jack, one of the main characters lacks leadership through his personality traits during the book. Jack failed at being a good leader because of his hubris characteristics that out an effect on the book, Lord of the Flies. When the boys arrive at the island, before they could settle in Jack is determined to be the leader of the tribe. He “ought to be chief because [he is the] chapter chorister and head boy, [also] can sing C sharp” (Golding 22). Jack being cocky and selfish nominates himself as no one else wants him to be the leader. At the beginning of the book Jack wanted his choir and him to be the hunters, thinking he could do it all with his brave self. “I was going to [kill the pig but] next time” (Golding 31).
