Jack London's White Fang

An animal, like a wolf, has to learn to adapt very quickly to its surroundings. Even though it is a predator, it still will be prey to some other animals. White Fang is a fiction book for young adults by Jack London, that is about a young wolf going through life and learning to adjust to the life of a domestic dog. The theme of White Fang is that change is hard. You can’t just adjust right off the bat, it takes patience and time. There are many instances that prove this theme true. In Chapter 3, Henry had to face off with the she-wolf, and he hastily went for the branding iron, trying to fend her off. He went for this method because he wasn’t adjusted to the weather or the pretense of a fight. In Chapter 4, it shows that One-Eye has had experience in fights. This means he had the time to change for the better. Also in Chapter 4, the she-wolf gets One-Eye to come with her on the excursion to the Indian Camp. This shows that the she-wolf has had experience watching the Indians before. Others might say that pride is the theme of the story. But, In chapter 4, the she-wolf gets rid of her pride and becomes the mate to One-Eye, showing that pride is not the overall theme of the book. …show more content…
In Chapter 8, White Fang has already started to hunt with his mom. This is because he has lived like this ever since he was born. Also in Chapter 8, the she-wolf and the wolf cub get attacked by the mother lynx and the wolf cub gets hurt. This is because he has not been adjusted to being attacked, since he’s always been the attacker. In Chapter 9, he has never seen man before, so he decides that they are bad. Since he hasn’t experienced man, he doesn’t know what to do. Others might say that innocence is the theme of the story. But, in Chapter 8, even though the wolf cub got hurt, he still killed the lynx without hesitation, showing that he doesn’t always have
