Jack London was an American writer, author and journalist who lived from 1876 to 1916. Some of his famous works include The Sea Wolf and Call of the Wild. Born in San Francisco on January 12, 1876, he was raised in Oakland, California, by his mother and stepfather. Jack London is considered to be a great writer.
In his teenage years, he worked many different jobs. In his spare time, he read travel books and novels at the library. Eventually, he told his mother a story of what happened one day while he was at work on a sealing ship. Learning of a writing contest that was advertised in the paper, Jack entered and won the $25 prize, having beaten college students from Berkeley and Sheffield.
By winning the contest, it opened up Mr. London’s eyes
